Three held for kidnapping man from Bhubaneswar, demanding Rs 3 lakh ransom

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Friday arrested three persons on charges of abducting a youth from Patharagadia area in Bhubaneswar and demanding a ransom of Rs 3 lakh.

The accused persons have been identified as Sakil Khan (36), Saniddhya Mohanty(30), Sk Tahir Alli (26).

Sunil Mohanty, son of Rabindranath Mohanty, a resident of Bhapur area in Nayagarh district was kidnapped by the three accused from near KISS Jagannath Temple at Patharagadia here on 6th November. Following this, Rabindranath Mohanty had lodged a complaint in this regard.

In his complaint, he stated that he and his son Sunil had attended a marriage negotiation at KISS, Jagannath Temple by driving his vehicle bearing No. OD 34 C 5230. After dropping him at Jagannath Temple, Sunil had gone to the garage for a routine checkup and did not return. Then Rabindranath found that his son has been kidnapped by some unknown persons.

After some time, the kidnappers called him and demanded a ransom of 3 lakhs for the release of his son. The kidnappers also asked him to deposit the amount with Sunil’s account and then switched off the phone.

Acting on the plaint, police thoroughly examined the informant and others. A mobile phone number was detected on which once the kidnappers contacted the elder son of the informant.

The telephone number was tracked, verified and the Police team nabbed the accused from Kumuda, Joyepur, and Mahanga, where they had confined the accused on the night of 6th November.

The two accused persons were apprehended by police and thereafter based upon their information the victim Sunil was rescued and other accused persons were apprehended.

Two motorcycles, four mobile phones, an SUV car were seized by the police. The case is now under active investigation, an official said.
