New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday has ordered the immediate transfer of Assam National Register of Citizens (NRC) chief to Madhya Pradesh.
The court in its order said Prateek Hajela, the man who led the process of updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam, will be transferred immediately to Madhya Pradesh. Hajela, 48, is a 1995 batch IAS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre.
The bench headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi said Hajela, the coordinator of the NRC, would be on deputation for a maximum period.
When the Attorney General KK Venogupal asked if there was any reason for the transfer of NRC chief, the Chief Justice said: “Yes, there is a reason”. The order, however, doesn’t give the reason.
