Cuttack: Preparations are in full swing in the silver city for the historic ‘Baliyatra’ which is scheduled to begin from 12th November and will conclude on 22nd November.
This year, the administration is gearing up for a plastic-free Baliyatra event keeping in view the target of making Odisha plastic-free over the next two years.
Besides, during a meeting regarding the plot allocation both new and old traders are instructed to avoid using plastics at their stalls. The plots will be allocated to the traders on the basis of guidelines set up by the National Green Tribunal (NGT).
According to sources, the process of cleaning the ground has already begun. Concerned officials are also making elaborate arrangements for the uninterrupted and adequate supply of drinking water and power at the Baliyatra.
Over 1,000 pavilions, kiosks, and eateries are expected to come up this year on the fairground spread over 40 acres.
For centuries, the yatra has been an annual fair at the Killa Maidan near the Gadgadia Shiva temple on the banks of Mahanadi. The fair begins on Kartika Purnima day every year. The government had extended the annual fair to the talapadia (river bed) in 1996.
