Pregnant woman walks for 2 km to reach ambulance in Kandhamal


Kandhamal: A pregnant woman was forced to walk for two kilometres to reach an ambulance due to barbed wire fencing on a patch of land connecting the Dubgarh-Kashipadar road Kandhamal district today.

The woman has been identified as Pushpita Behera of Benakara village in the district.

According to sources, the woman complained of labour pain this morning following which her family members contacted the ambulance. However, the emergency vehicle driver expressed his inability to reach the pick-up point due to the fencing, which was erected on the land following a dispute.

With no other option left, the woman walked for about 2 km to reach the ambulance. Later, she was carried on a stretcher to the ambulance.

Reportedly, the woman has been admitted to Phulbani hospital.
