Bargarh: One more person was arrested on Sunday in connection with the killing of a leopard inside the forest in Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary in Bargarh district on October 28.
Yesterday three persons were arrested in connection with the incident. They were identified as Tahasil Bhoi, Sushil Bhoi and Satya Pradhan, all residents of Khajaria village.
Meanwhile, Regional Chief Conservator of Forest (RCCF) OP Singh on Sunday informed that the carcass found in Debrigarh was of a Royal Bengal tiger and not a leopard.
Singh said the three persons arrested on Saturday had confessed that they had killed a tiger. They said that they had collected nails and moustache of the animal before dumping it in a pit.
Forest Department had submitted a detailed report to the Crime Branch earlier on Saturday.
On October 31, Bargarh DFO had suspended Kamagan forester, Parsuram Behera and Hajurigarh forest guard, Pravasini Mahananda for dereliction of duty.
Notably, on October 28, the decomposed carcass of the big cat was found in a forest near Khajuria village in Bargarh district. Earlier, it was suspected that the carcass was of a tiger and later it was declared as a leopard.
