Odisha’s JK Tripathy appointed Tamil Nadu’s new DGP


Bhubaneswar: IPS officer Jalad Kumar Tripathy of Odisha has been appointed as the Director General of Police (DGP) and Head of Police Force, Tamil Nadu with effect from July 1st, 2019.

A 1985 batch officer JK Tripathy, who hails from Odisha, was chosen from a list of six candidates vetted by the Union Public Service Commission. The officer, with his impeccable record in the police force spanning over three decades, will succeed TK Rajendran, whose term ends this month-end.

The Tamil Nadu government had on Thursday recommended the names of senior officers K Shanmugam and JK Tripathy to the Governor for the next chief secretary and director general of police (law and order) and head of the police force, respectively.

Incumbent CS Girija Vaidyanathan and DGP TK Rajendran will retire from service this month-end, after being part of the tumultuous journey of the EPS government for more than two years.
