Odia jawan martyred in J&K’s Baramulla


Bhubaneswar: An Odia jawan was martyred during an encounter between militants and security forces in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.

The deceased, identified as Hemanta Panda, hails from Atharanga village under Begunia block of Khurda district. He joined the Indian Army two years ago and was posted at Baramulla.

According to sources, Panda was on duty on when a gunfight broke out between militants and security forces. Panda sustained bullet injuries and was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, sources added.

The mortal remains of the slain soldier is expected to reach his native village on Sunday.
