Mary Kom bags gold, Manisha clinches silver in Polish boxing tournament
Poland: MC Mary Kom (48kg) bagged her third gold medal of the year and Manisha (54kg) won a silver medal at the 13th Silesian Open Boxing Tournament for women in Gliwice in Poland.
The five-time world champion, Mary Kom won the match against Kazakhstan’s Aigerim Kassanayeva with the score of 5-0. This gave India its only senior category gold at the event.
Manisha, on the other hand, faced Ukraine’s Ivanna Krupenia in her category. Manisha lost the match with 2-3 though she proved to be more aggressive than her opponent.
India also won four bronze medals in the senior category through L Sarita Devi (60kg), Ritu Grewal (51kg), Lovlina Borgohain (69kg) and Pooja Rani (81kg).
In the youth competition, Jyoti Gulia (51kg), India’s only boxer to have qualified for next month’s Youth Olympic Games in Argentina, was India’s lone medallist with a gold.
In the junior competition, the Indian team signed off with 13 medals – six gold, six silver, and a bronze.
