Geneva: Former director of European Commission, Brian Toll, has said Gilgit-Baltistan is “technically a part of India”, according to reports.

Toll’s gave the remark following the abrogation of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir. He opined that scrapping of the Article will empower the people of the state and they will get more economic opportunities.

Toll said: “It is very important to see the overall issue and Gilgit-Baltistan finding its place in the world order, having a voice and being able to express itself, not being controlled from Pakistan’s central Islamabad.”

On May 21 last year, the Imran Khan-led PTI government promulgated ‘Gilgit Baltistan Order, 2018′ which replaced the Gilgit Baltistan Empowerment and Self-Governance Order of 2009’.

The people of the region opposed the move as it was done without consulting them. India had also lodged a strong protest against this move.
