Gajapati: Five persons have been detained from Mohana block in Gajapati district for allegedly holding hostage 29 girl students of a government residential school here, police said today.

According to the sources, the five accused allegedly helped the girl students in fleeing the hostel and later held them hostage in a secluded house at Tangilipadara near Chandragiri.

Notably, the inmates of Antarba girls’ residential school under Mohana police limits on January 26 had vacated the hostel alleging lack of coordination by teachers over some issues in the school.

The district administration officials and police had rescued the girls on January 27 from the secluded house after tracking the cellphone of one of the students after a 20-hour-long search operation.
