First Defence Minister to fly Tejas fighter jet from HAL airport

Bengaluru: Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will be the first defence minister to fly the light combat aircraft (LCA) Tejas on Thursday.

Singh will do a sortie from the HAL Airport in Bengaluru. The light combat aircraft (LCA) Tejas is India’s first indigenously-built.

Defence ministry officials said, the Defence Minister will do a sortie in an attempt to boost the morale of those officers in Hindustan Aeronautics Limited who have worked in the development of the aircraft. He will be accompanied by Air Vice Marshal N Tiwari.

Defence sources said, the LCA has been designed and developed by Bengaluru-based Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and has been built by HAL. It is a single-engine, delta wing, multi-role fighter jet.
