Elephant attack leaves two dead in Angul forest

Angul: Two persons were killed in an attack by an elephant in a forest near Suleipal village under Kaniha Forest Range in Angul district.

The deceased have been identified as Debraj Samal and Sudhakar Mohanty.

According to sources, the duo had gone to nearby farmland last evening in order to spread compost when they came across the pachyderm. The jumbo then attacked them crushing one to death on the spot and injuring one critically.

As the duo did not return home, the family member carried out a frantic search to trace them and found Sudhakar’s body in the forest patch.

Debraj, who sustained grievous injuries in the attack, was rescued and rushed to Talcher Hospital but doctors declared him “dead upon arrival”.
