Bhubaneswar: A bus toppled from a bridge on NH 55 in Angul claiming four lives and leaving 25 injured. The rescue operations are on, informed Kavita Jalan, Angul SP.
The ‘Janhamamu’ bus was headed from Angul towards Athamallik when it hit a bike near Tukuda and subsequently lost balance and toppled from the bridge. Around 50 people were on board.
“We have found four dead bodies now. Several have been critically injured. The rescue process is underway,” informed the Angul SP.
Srinibas Behera, ADM, Angul informed that after a bike came before the bus the driver lost balance following which the bus fell off the bridge. “The severely injured 18 passengers have been taken to SCB Medical in Cuttack while the rest 30 odd injured persons have been shifted to Angul district headquarters hospital,” he said.
Last month around 20 were killed in a similar bus accident in Angul that was also travelling to Athamallik.
Transport minister Ramesh Majhi has demanded Angul RTO a report on the accident. “We will take action based on the report. We will provide all medical assistance to the injured,” he said.
