BMC readies for famous Khandagiri Mela
Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is all set to host the annual Khandagiri Mela, the popular religious and cultural festival, scheduled to begin on February 12.
The BMC along with the Commissionerate Police have proposed plans to avert any untoward incident during the 12-day festival.
In its preparatory meeting, which was held on January 10, the BMC commissioner Shubham Saxena had stressed for proper sanitation, allotment of land for stalls, raising revenue and of the fair.
The allotment of stalls and collection of license fee will be done from February 10 to 11. The civic body has hiked the rates for temporary stalls from Rs 5,500 to Rs 6,000 for the event this year.
On the other hand, the rates for drama and opera on private and government land are set for Rs 5,000 and Rs 6,000 per day respectively.
“We will be strictly focusing on sanitation for this year fair. Spot auction on the parking lot will be done to ensure any traffic congestions. The security is also being tightened for the event, especially in the areas where plays will be staged,” said Lalatendo Sahoo, South West Zonal officer.
The event would conclude on February 23.
