Affected villagers shifted to safety as Rengali dam overflows in Deogarh


Deogarh: Nearly 51 members of 13 families from Sunamunda village under Barkote block in Deogarh district were shifted to Kadalipal Primary School as Rengali dam overflowed.

The district administration immediately shifted the families to safety,sources said.

According to sources, the Sunamunda village was already flooded following torrential rain in the last couple of days.

The district administration has taken the step as a precautionary measure, in view of the possibility of flooding in the area.

Sources said the residents of Sunamunda village initially hesitated to shift to the school area. Barkote BDO and Tehsildar held discussion with the locals and persuaded them to shift to the safer place.

The district administration has taken necessary steps for providing cooked food and medicines to the affected families, sources said.
