ZP by-poll: BJD wins by defeating BJP

Mayurbhanj: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidate Raghunath Tudu on Friday emerged victorious after defeating his BJP rival Kutulu Hansda by a margin of over 4,000 votes in the by-election held for the Zilla Parishad Zone-32 of Bijatala Block in Mayurbhanj district.

The by-election was held on Thursday with nearly 78 per cent of voters of the five panchayats –Bijatala, Mundathakura, Banakati, Raihari, and Luhasila exercised their franchise.

Majhi defeated his nearest rival Hansda by a margin of 4,212 votes. Majhi polled 8875 votes while Hansda got 4663 votes.

Similarly, BJD-supported candidate Tilatama Bhatra won the Badakumari Panchayat Samti seat on Friday. The Badakumari Panchayat Samti seat falls under the Jharigam Assembly constituency which is represented by state minister Ramesh Majhi.

BJD candidate Ramakanta Malik won the Panchayat Samiti seat beating his nearest BJP rival Harendra Malik by 74 votes in a by-election at Talapada in Balasore district.

However, BJP managed to win a by-poll held for the post of Sarpanch of Majhigadia GP in Kaptipada block of Mayurbhanj district.
