Youth ‘kicked’ to death in Jajpur
Jajpur: A youth identified as Sanatan Samal died after he was allegedly kicked on his stomach by a person over a petty quarrel at Sankharidiha village in Jajpur district on Monday. The accused has been identified as Giri Mandal of the Dharmasala village.
The matter came to light after the deceased’s family members lodged a complaint with the police against alleging that their son was kicked to death by the accused, who had returned from jail after serving 12 years of imprisonment for murdering his wife.
According to the complaint, the accused took up a quarrel with Sanatan over some issue at Sankharidiha market last evening. In a fit of rage, accused Mandal kicked on the latter’s stomach following which he turned critical.
After Sanatan reached home, he started vomiting blood and narrated the incident to the family. However, he succumbed while being taken to Dharmasala hospital, the complaint further read.
Following the incident, the deceased’s family and local staged a road blockade on the National Highway 16 near Sankharidiha by placing the body on the road. The agitators demanded immediate arrest of the accused.
On being informed police reached the spot and held discussion with the locals. The road blockade was lifted within an hour after police assured action against the accused.
According to available information, police has detained Mandal for questioning while further investigations are underway.
