Budapest: Wrestler Pooja Dhanda with a remarkable 10-7 win over the 2017 European champion Grace Jacob Bullen, clinched bronze medal in the women’s freestyle 57 kg weight class at the Wrestling World Championships in Budapest on Thursday.
Pooja, with a lead of 6-1 in the first period, had to endure some harrowing moments in the second period when the Norwegian launched an all-out attack. However, the Indian wrestler managed a 10-7 win despite giving away points for passivity step-out points.
Before Pooja, only three Indian women grapplers — Alka Tomar in 2006, Geeta Phogat and Babita Phogat in 2012 had won a bronze medal each at the Worlds Championships.
Pooja is now the fourth Indian woman to win a World Championship medal and this is her second big medal this season, having won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast.
