Women activist protesting for liquor-free Odisha scuffle with cops


Bhubaneswar: Tension ran high in the capital city after scores of women members of Milita Odisha Nisha Nibarana Abhiyan tried to barge into Cheif Minister’s residence today.

This led to a scuffle between the activists and police, who had a tough time controlling the protestors.

According to sources, the members of the association called for the agitation demanding enforcement of total prohibition of liquor in the state and later enter Naveen Niwas.

As the policemen deployed on duty tried to intercept them, a scuffle took place between the two sides. The cops took many women protestors into preventive custody.

Earlier today, the agitators blocked the National Highway near Satsang Vihar and later resorted to picketing demanding the declaration of Odisha as a liquor-free State.
