Malkangiri: A woman Maoist cadre identified as Nayana Khilo (19), surrendered before BSF DIG (Malkangiri) Barajendra Singh on Thursday in presence of Malkangiri SP Jagmohan Meena.
Khilo, a resident of Sanyasiguda village under Chitrakonda police limits of the district was carrying an award of Rs 1 lakh on her head.
According to police, Khilo was an active member in Gumma Area Committee under Malkangiri Division of the Andhra Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC) of outlawed CPI (Maoist) Organisation from 2016.
She is suspected to be involved in three firing incidents, including one in 2016 and two in 2018. Besides, she was also involved in the burning of vehicles engaged in road construction at Babumundi Ghati near Mudulipada in December 2017.
It was learnt the lack of proper leadership in the Maoist organisation and being inspired of the state government’s efforts to develop cut-off areas, Khilo quit the rebel outfit and join the mainstream.
She will be awarded with monetary assistance as per the Surrender and Rehabilitation Scheme of Odisha Government, police said.
