Woman Maoist gunned down in encounter in Odisha


Kandhamal: A woman Maoist was killed and a Jawan was injured in an exchange of fire during an anti-Maoist drive conducted by Special Operation Group (SOG) Jawans in a forest near Badakhama in Kandhamal district on Sunday night, DGP RP Sharma said today.

The deceased cadre has been identified as Banila from Gariabandh area of neighbouring Chhattisgarh, was a member of the Kandhamal-Kalahandi division of CPI (Maoist).

She was carrying a cash prize of Rs 4 lakh on her head.

During the search operation, the SOG Jawans recovered 1 rifle, 32 live bullets and Rs 4,000 from the possession of the dead Maoist.

The injured SOG jawan with bullet injuries was admitted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. His condition is stated to be out of danger.
