WII team fails to identify sheep killers after taking stock in Niali

Cuttack: The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) expert team, which had arrived here on Friday to conduct an on-field assessment of the killings of sheep, visited Niali in Cuttack district on Saturday and took stock of the situation.

The two-member team spoke to villagers of affected areas and saw the pictures of the dead domestic animals captured by the villagers.

However, the villagers rued that various expert teams have been visiting the affected areas, but there has been no solution to their problem. Their animals continue to be in danger and they are still spending sleepless nights.

The WII team is scheduled to visit Bhanjanagar in Ganjam district next and investigate the sheep deaths in that area.

Official sources said the team would conduct a comprehensive study on the pattern of killings and modus operandi of the mysterious killer animal and submit a report suggesting measures that are needed to combat the menace.
