West Bengal CID arrests Justice CS Karnan from Coimbatore
Chennai: Former Justice CS Karnan has been arrested by West Bengal CID from Coimbatore today on charges of contempt of court. According to reports, he will be flown to Kolkata possibly by Wednesday.
The controversial Calcutta High Court judge C S Karnan had ended his tenure on June 12 as a fugitive from law with no customary farewell being given to him.
In January this year, Justice Karnan stirred a hornet’s nest after he alleged that 20 sitting and retired Supreme Court and High Court judges are corrupt.
Sixty-two-year-old Justice Karnan has been evading arrest since May 9 after being sentenced to six months imprisonment for contempt of court by the Supreme Court. He has the dubious distinction of being the first sitting high court judge to be awarded a jail term by the apex court.
