Kolkata: Yet another sparkling partnership between Virat Kohli and A.B. de Villiers in the IPL provided Royal Challengers Bangalore a comprehensive win against Kolkata Knight Riders in a match played at Eden Gardens here on Monday.
The Virat-AB duo posted 115 runs partnership for the second wicket, thereby steering RCB to a 9 wickets win over hosts KKR. Kohli and de Villiers remained not out on 75 and 59 respectively while Chris Gayle contributed with a 31-ball 49.
Chasing KKR’s 183/5, RCB went off to a flyer as Gayle turned explosive for the first time in this season of IPL, smashing the ball to all parts of the ground.
After six overs, Bangalore were cruising at 63 for no loss but then Gayle was adjudged leg-before-wicket off a delivery by Sunil Narine.
However, AB and Virat ensured no further damage to the RCB and chased the target brilliantly with 8 balls to spare.
Brief Scores– KKR: 183/5 (Gambhir 51, Pandey 50, Russell 39 not out; Aravind 2/41)
RCB: 186/1 (Kohli 75 not out, de Villiers 59 not out, Chris Gayle 49; Sunil Narine 1/34).
