Bhadrak: Vigilance sleuths on Saturday inspected the quality of works of various projects undertaken by the public works department at Bhadrak Autonomous College here following allegations of irregularities and misuse of Rs 2 crore assistance provided to the college.
Following the direction of Balasore vigilance SP Sushil Senapati, a five-member team led by vigilance inspector Manasi Jena and technical officers conducted field inquiry of the construction works of the college.
The technical officers dug up the concrete road on the premises of the college which was part of the construction works to check the quality of works. The officials also conducted field inquiry of various other works of the college undertaken by the public works department during 2016-17 and 2017-18 fiscal.
Sources said a concrete road, classroom, examination hall, toilet, administrative building and NCC hall were constructed and painting works were carried by the public works department with Rs 2 crore assistance provided to the college.
Locals had alleged that the tenders of the works were given to selected contractor without any bidding and huge percentage commission was earned. The construction works were of inferior quality, they added.
After the field inspection, the vigilance officials visited the public works department office and examined various documents related to the projects in the presence of the executive engineer. The inspection of documents was on till the evening and the officials refused to comment on it.
