Bhubaneswar: Even after safety assurance from the Commisonerate Police, couples might have to be on alert on Valentine’s Day as the Kalinga Sena’s women wing has warned to carry out a drive against couples involved in indecent behaviour.
The socio-cultural outfit has warned to present stinging nettles (Bichuati) to such couples celebrating Valentine’s Day during their drive, which they consider to be the fight to save the integrity of Indian culture.
Binati Mohanty, the president of the women wing, said that they will launch a drive against couples in the city. She asserted that couples found indulging in indecent behavior will be presented with branches of the Indian stinging nettles (Bicchuati). Around 200 students of seven colleges are ready to be deployed by the outfit for this purpose.
Similarly, Subhadra Dash, leader of Nari Sakha said, “Couples occupy parks, malls, hotels in an extremely indecent manner on Valentine’s Day. We oppose that and if they continue in this manner we will charge them with stinging nettles. We have planned to bring together 300 students from various colleges to undertake this task.”
She added that they do not oppose love but do oppose indecent behaviour in public places and will charge any couple on Valentine’s Day with bichuati.
When asked, Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Sahu said that they have strengthened police presence at various sites in Bhubaneswar fearing unlawful activities. He also urged the organisation to not take the law into their own hand.
Earlier, the Twin City Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty had assured that the love-birds of the city will be safe from harassment and moral policing on Valentine’s Day.
