US President Donald Trump again offers to mediate over Kashmir issue
Washington DC: US President Donald Trump has again offered to mediate over Kashmir issue saying India-Pakistan ‘conflict’ a bit less heated now.
This is Trump’s first comment on the matter since he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the G-7 summit in France on August 26.
Media reports said Trump told reporters at the White House that “India and Pakistan are having a conflict over Kashmir as you know. I think (it) is a little bit less heated right now than (what) was two weeks ago”.
It may be recalled that the American President had first made the remarks during Pakistan PM Imran Khan’s maiden visit to Washington in July. During the meeting with Trump, Khan had urged Trump to mediate in the Kashmir issue.
India had rejected the offer saying that Kashmir is India’s internal matter. It has made it amply clear that no third party intervention is acceptable in the issue.
After India’s rejection he had again moved away from his earlier remarks saying that Kashmir issue needed to be resolved between India and Pakistan.
