Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has approved the 10 per cent reservation for upper caste economically backward people on Friday.
The ten percent quota ensures reservation in jobs for upper class poor. The reservation is also applicable for them in educational institutions.
According to reports, the approval was given at a cabinet meeting here presided over by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Senior cabinet ministers of the state were also present in the meeting, UP government spokesperson Shrikant Sharma told reporters here.
The Parliament has recently passed the 10 per cent reservation in jobs and educational institutions to the economically weaker sections in the general category.
The Constitution (124 Amendment) Bill, 2019 was unanimously passed for this purpose in the Winter session of Parliament.
President Ram Nath Kovind has given his assent to the bill.
