Undertrial prisoner escapes from police custody for 3rd time in Nayagarh

Nayagarh: An undertrial prisoner (UTP) of Khandapada Sub-jail in Nayagarh district escaped by jumping from the court van for the third time on Friday.

According to sources, the accused Tapan Rout was arrested from Fategarh area in the district in connection with raping a minor girl.

While Rout was being taken to a local court for trial today. He gave a slip to the jail staff and jumped off the court van and escaped.

Following which, the police have launched a manhunt in the district to nab the accused.

Notably, on August 3, he managed to escape from the sub-jail by climbing the boundary wall and he was nabbed by police after two days. Earlier, the UTP had escaped from the jail on June 10.
