Bhubaneswar: Police has revealed the modus operandi of the dacoits who looted the UCO Bank on Raj Mahal Square, on September 28, two days after two persons were arrested from Bihar in connection with the robbery. The Commissionerate Police on Thursday said the dacoits came to Bhubaneswar in a truck from Bihar for the loot.
“During interrogation, we came to know that two of the accused, who are on the run, were brought to Bhubaneswar in a truck from Bihar. The truck also carried two bikes. The two goons alighted from the truck near Khandagiri Square and used the bikes to reach UCO Bank. After committing the crime, the two persons fled in the same truck,” a police officer said.
However, the police are still groping in dark about the mastermind. The cops are yet to recover the booty. On September 28, a group of five armed robbers attacked the UCO Bank, located nearly 200 metres from Capital police station. The miscreants snatched mobile phones from bank staffers and visitors and assaulted them before decamping with the cash and ornaments.
On November 15, police arrested Vijay Sah and Bhagwat Thakur from Bihar in connection with the brazen dacoity that raised serious question mark on the efficacy of the Commissionerate Police.
Police said they got clue about the duo while scanning the call details of phones used in Raj Mahal locality. “We turned our focus on phone calls (mostly outstation calls) and sought reports from different telecom firms. Since we found similar bank robberies committed in Bihar recently, we tracked the phone numbers of Bihar used in Raj Mahal area,” the officer added.
Police said several other robbery cases reported in different districts in Odisha, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh are likely to be solved soon. “We suspect the same gang was involved in some other crimes. We have shared information with the concerned police,” police commissioner Y B Khurania said.
