Two students critical after attacked by unidentified miscreant


Baripada: As many as two students of a residential school were critically injured after they were attacked by an unidentified miscreant outside the hostel premises at Saraskana town in Mayurbhanj district on Sunday.

The victims were identified as Sandeep Hansda (class VI) and Manoj Mahanta (class IX) of Saraswati Sishu Vidya Mandir. Both were staying in the school hostel.

The incident took place this morning at around 4 am when Sandeep was out from the hostel to the nearest bushy area to take nature’s call. Suddenly, an unidentified person came out from the bushy area and attacked him with sharp weapon on his neck. On hearing scream of Sandeep , Manoj rushed to save him.  Meanwhile, the miscreant also attacked him.

On being informed, the school authorities rushed them to the Saraskana hospital and later were shifted to the district headquarters hospital where Sandeep’s condition is stated to be critical.

The school authorities have lodged a complaint with the police in this regard. The police have launched a probe into the matter.

However, the actual reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained.
