Two held for selling spurious gold in Jagatpur


Jagatpur: Police arrested two persons on Saturday from Jagatpur for allegedly selling a piece of spurious gold to two persons in Gunjarpur police limits in Cuttack

The accused were identified as Tapan Kumar Mohanty of Oupada and Shyam Sundar Ghadei of Dalanga in Balasore district. The spurious gold piece weighing around 459.52 grams and Rs 3 lakh cash was recovered from them.

According to the FIR filed by Gofer Ali Khan of Gunjarpur, Ghadei had approached him buy an ancestral gold piece of his, citing urgent need of money for construction of his house.

Khan and one of his friend, Ajay Kumar Nayak jointly purchased the gold and paid Rs 10 lakh to him. However they later came to know that the gold piece was spurious.

During investigation Ghadei revealed that he had received a share from others and revealed the name of one Tapan, following which the latter was rounded up by the police.

Police have recovered the Rs 1, 75, 000 from Ghadei and Rs 1, 25, 000 from Tapan. Both the accused persons will be forwarded to the Court of JMFC, Salipur today while efforts are on the nab the other accused persons.
