Two guests charred to death in hotel fire, 32 evacuated in Kolkata

Kolkata: As many as 2 persons have been killed and many injured when a fire broke out at a hotel in South Kolkata early today.

One of the dead has been identified as Chamar Kishan (52), a resident of Sundergarh district in Odisha and who was also an employee of Tata Steel. He was staying in room number 406 of the Golden Parkk Hotel on Ho Chi Minh Sarani. The other victim of the incident was 53-year Anup Agarwal from Gujarat’s Surat.

The two victims were rushed to SSKM Hospital where they were declared dead. Two others have also been admitted to Woodlands Hospital and three more were treated at another hospital.

The death toll could have been increased if the disaster management team did not manage to evacuate 32 people from the hotel, officials said.

However, the incident triggered memories of AMRI hospital blaze that killed more than 90 in December 2011.
