Two govt officials land in vigilance net
Kandhamal/Angul: Vigilance sleuths on Wednesday arrested two government officials for allegedly accepting illegal gratification in Kandhamal and Angul districts.
In the first incident, a revenue inspector (RI) in Kandhamal district was caught red-handed by the Vigilance officers while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1000 from a person.
Tarini Parichia, posted as RI in Baliguda Circle under Baliguda Tehsil, had demanded the bribe from one Sukadev Mallick to provide him attested copy of Record of Rights (ROR) and trace map. Later, Sukadev lodged a complaint with the Vigilance.
Acting on the complaint, Phulbani Vigilance division laid a trap and nabbed the officer red-handed while accepting the bribe. The officials also seized the bribe money from his possession.
A case has been registered against the accused officer under relevant Sections of the IPC.
In another case, head clerk of Banarpal Block Education office in Angul district, Ranjan Kumar Nayak, was caught red-handed by the Vigilance officers while accepting Rs 3000 bribe.
Nayak had demanded the bribe from Prashant Kumar Sahoo, assistant teacher of Paratara Primary school, to prepare an arrear bill. Acting on the complaint lodged by Prashant, the Vigilance sleuths laid a trap and nabbed Ranjan while accepting the bribe from the complainant.
A case has been registered against the accused and further investigations are underway, Vigilance officials informed.
