Two cattle-laden trucks seized in Cuttack, 5 held

Cuttack: Police seized two cattle-laden trucks from Birupa bridge on NH-16 in Cuttack and rescued hundreds of cattle on Thursday night.

The cops also arrested five persons involved in the illegal transporting of cattle. They have been identified as Chabi Nayak, SK Kabir, Abdul Rafuddin Khan, Mohammad Ibrahim and Bikas Mallik.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of Jagatpur and Choudwar police intercepted the two trucks on Birupa bridge. The cattle were being transported to Kharagpur in West Bengal from Begunia area of Khurda.

The cops also rescued around 176 cows from the vehicle while three cattle were also found dead.

The rescued cattle have been sent to a cattle-shed in Mangaraj area in Choudwar police limits, officials said.
