Two arrested for firing, chain snatching in city
Bhubaneswar: In a major breakthrough, Commissionerate Police on Monday arrested two persons on charges of attempt to look and firing. The accused, Ashok Behera and Bhimsen Nayak, were nabbed from Bankuala on the outskirts of city.
Police have recovered a country-made pistol along with two live bullets, motorcycle used in the crime and the gold chain besides some other gold ornaments from the two miscreants.
Bhimsen had opened fire at one Biswaranjan Swain of Aiginia on Sunday evening for resisting a loot bid. The incident took place when Biswaranjan and his wife Monalisa Balwantray were going from CRP Square to his mother-in-law’s house in Sijua area.
While entering the house, Monalisa was intercepted by the duo. Bhimsen got off from the motorcycle and snatched a chain from Monalisa’s neck, to which she protested.
Biswaranjan stepped out of the car and nabbed Bhimsen. In a bid to flee from the spot, Bhimsen opened fire at him and shot in his left leg. The two miscreants then fled from the spot.
“Bhimsen and Ashok have criminal antecedents. In the last three months, the duo was involved in several cases lodged at many police stations,” said Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi.
