Twin City Police seize pistol from flat in city, woman held


Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police, on Wednesday seized an illegal firearm (pistol) from a flat in Patrapada here and arrested a woman in connection with the case on Wednesday.

Acting on a tip-off that illegal firearms trading was going on in the apartment, police struck a gun purchase deal with the occupants of the flat by disguising as potential buyers. The cops then raided the flat and seized one 7.6 mm pistol from the spot and arrested Sabita Mallick (20) of Kendrapara.

The tenant’s wife told police that her husband had left for the media firm’s branch office at Cuttack in the morning. The police have also recovered his identity card from the spot. According to the police sources, the man was staying with his wife in Patrapada area from last eight months.Police are yet to lay their hands on the man, who has taken the flat on rent. “The man is working as a journalist in a Chhattisgarh-based media company. We have launched a search operation to nab him,” Khandagiri police said. Meanwhile, Mallick claimed that she used to follow the instructions given to her by the tenant of the flat.
