Three held for ransacking forest range office
Dhenkanal: Police on Wednesday arrested three persons for allegedly vandalising a forest range office under Sarangi division of Dhenkanal district following death of a man in elephant attack.
According to reports, Krushna Pradhan (45), a resident of Sarangi village, was trampled to death by a wild elephant on Tuesday.
Angry over the incident, the locals barged into the range office and destroyed articles. They also torched two motorcycles and ransacked an SUV. Later, they staged a road blockade by burning tyres.
Following the incident, Sarangi Forest Ranger Ashok Bhanja lodged a complaint with Gondia police against the locals. Taking note of the report, police have arrested three persons in connection with the case. They were forwarded to the court.
The deceased family has been given an aid of Rs 40,000 by the forest department for conducting the last rites. The elephant will be tranquilized and shifted to a different place, the ranger said.
