Three held for killing man, dumping body on rly track in city
Bhubaneswar: Badagada police on Thursday arrested three persons in connection with the murder of one Jaga Das at Gautam Nagar area on September 8. The arrested were identified as Kalandi Rana (23), Dipak Rana (19) and Santosh Sahu (22), all residents of Gautamnagar Basti.
According to police, the dead body of Jaga Das, a resident of Potala basti under Capital police limits, was found on the railway track near Gautamnagar, which was initially registered as a case (68/18) of unnatural death by Governmnet Railway Police.
However, during probe and based on post mortem report, it was found that Jaga was brutally murdered before being dumped on the railway tracks.
Police said, Jaga was an antisocial and had committed several serious offences in Badagada PS and Laxmisagar PS limits. He used to harass people and commit crime in Gautamnagar basti area, as the people feared to report against him.
Some people of the basti developed hatred against him and planned to eliminated him after Jaga, snatched away the donation money from them, which was collected for Ganesh Puja celebration in the basti.
On September 8 evening, the accused persons spotted Jaga near a gym in the area and forcibly dragged him to the basti where they hacked him to death and threw the body on the railway track to avoid suspicion.
Some eyewitnesses of the incident also told the same to the police, while post-mortem report revealed that Jaga was hit multiple times with sharp objects as there were several cut injuries all over the body.
Based on all the facts and findings Badagada police identified and arrested three of the accused persons of the basti for their alleged involvement in the crime.
As per reports, the Commissionerate Police has formed a special team to nab the other persons involved in the crime, who are on the run.
