Three convicted in essential commodities act case


Bhubaneswar: A special vigilance court in Bhubaneswar on Friday convicted two storage agents of PDS commodities and another person for irregularities in maintenance of records of godown of PDS commodities and sentenced them to three years rigorous imprisonment.

The convicts were identified as Binodini Pradhan, storage agent of PDS commodities of Chilika Block and Balugaon NAC in Khurda, storage agent Bhagaban Pradhan and one Jogendra Kumar Sahu of Banapur.

The special vigilance court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on each convict. Failure to pay the fine will invite additional rigorous imprisonment of six months, the court said.

Tanuja Mohanty, former vigilance inspector, Bhubaneswar Division, currently posted as DSP, Vigilance Cell Unit Office, had investigated the case while the special public prosecutor, vigilance P Pattnaik presented the case.
