Thief ‘escapes’ from police custody in Jharsuguda
Jharsuguda: A thief who was caught by people while stealing from a house here and handed over to police on Thursday allegedly escaped from Jharsuguda police station. However, the police have refuted the allegation.
According to sources, the accused Sagir Shaikh, who hails from Patarapali of Sundergarh district, was arrested by the police yesterday on charges of stealing from a house at Mangalbazar Hatalipada in the town.
A video of the thief being interrogated by the police and being taken on a police vehicle is also doing rounds on social media.
Sources said the thief was caught red-handed by the people while he was stealing from the house of Shoaib. On intimation, police reached the spot and took the accused youth to the police station.
Cops have also registered a case (527/19) under Sections 454, 511 and 380 of the IPC against the accused. However, it is alleged that the thief managed to escape from the police station this morning.
