Swargadwar land grab: Encroachers to face criminal charges
Puri: RDC AB Ota on Wednesday directed Puri District Magistrate Arabind Agarwal to file criminal cases against the persons who have taken Swargadwar land by fraudulent means.
Ota reviewed the Swargadwar land scam probe body and told mediapersons that out of the 34 acres of land, 14 acres has been recovered; and for rest 10 acres notices have been issued to the occupants by the tehsildar in OEA cases.
The probe body constituted on the direction of the RDC was headed by the district Collector. During the inspection of records, it was found that vast areas of the Jagannath Temple and Government land were grabbed by fabricating fake documents. Thirteen persons were identified for allegedly committing fraud. While about three acres of land was recovered and recorded in favour of Government, 11 acres was recorded in favour of the emple.
After media reports that a number of persons have also settled Swargadwar land in their names reducing the cremation area to a mere one acre, the RDC had formed the probe body, which submitted its report.
