Koraput: Palpable tension prevailed in Pottangi area of Koraput district after a country-made liquor unit and several vehicles were torched by suspected Maoists last night.
According to sources, the incident took place at around 2 am. As the locals of the area were sleeping while the vandalism took place, passersby spotted black smoke emanating from the area early this morning. The country-made liquor unit, several vehicles and a generator were damaged in the fire.
A poster issuing warning to stop the liquor unit was also found put up at the spot.
On being informed, local police reached the spot and initiated an investigation, sources said.
While the persons involved in the act are yet to be identified, it is suspected to be an act of Maoists. However, the poster found at the spot did not mention names of any rebel divisions.
