Surgery of conjoined twins Jaga-Balia begins at Delhi AIIMS
New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: In a development, the surgery of the conjoined twins of Kandhamal district has been started at AIIMS, New Delhi today at about 4.45 am after they were admitted to the Operation Theatre (OT) of the hospital.
A 40-member team of doctors with a Japan Medico Dr K Jaxaica are operating the twins which would last for 6-7 hours, informed State Health and Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena.
Minister Jena said, “The operation will take 6-7 hours. The surgery will be conducted in two phases. The first phase started off today and the other phase will be done some days later. A 40-member team of doctors specialized in Surgery, neuro-surgery, pediatrics, plastic surgery and cardiology with a Japanese doctor are conducting the operation of conjoined twins-Jaga and Balia”, said Jena.
Notably, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had sanctioned an aid of Rs 1 crore from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) for the twins towards their medical expenses on July 29.
