Bhubaneswar: Each World Environment Day is organised around a theme that focuses attention on a particularly pressing environmental concern. This year the theme for the World Environment Day 2018 is ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’.
The theme invites everyone to consider how they can make changes in their everyday lives to reduce the heavy burden of plastic pollution on our natural places, our wildlife – and their own health. While plastic has many valuable uses, we have become over-reliant on single-use or disposable plastic – with severe environmental consequences.
The World Environment Day 2018 celebrations in Odisha have begun with thousands of participants coming together to spread awareness among citizens to keep environment clean and green.
Many organizations have come up for beach-clean up drives at Puri, Chandrabhaga and Gopalpur beaches of Bay of Bengal.
With the growing issue on plastic waste menace, eminent international sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has created a sand turtle with installation of plastic bottles at Puri beach with a message ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’.
