New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday said that the NOTA (None of the Above) option will not be permitted in the Rajya Sabha elections.
The three-Judge bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra, Justice AM Khanwilkar and Justice DY Chandrachud has cleared that the NOTA option in the ballot paper for the Rajya Sabha election cannot be used as the NOTA option was meant to be exercised by the individual voters in the direct polls.
According to reports, Congress chief of Gujarat Vidhan Sabha Shailesh Manubhai Parmar, has filed a plea against using of NOTA in the election during the last Rajya Sabha poll election.
Parmar had challenged the Election Commission’s notification allowing the NOTA option in ballot papers. The apex court after considering the petition has given the verdict.
