Supplementary budget of Rs 12,790 crore presented in Assembly

Bhubaneswar: Finance Minister Sashi Bhusan Behera on Monday presented the first supplementary budget of Rs 12,790 crore for 2018-19 fiscal in the state Assembly here even as the opposition staged a walkout.

The opposition BJP and Congress walked out of the assembly after the finance minister did not make any comment on their demands for an increase in the old-age pension.

Replying to discussion and counter discussion over the Rs 12,790 crore provision for the supplementary statement of expenditure, Behera said this year the government will borrow funds from the open market under Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Act, 2003 to meet the expenditure.

“This year development of infrastructure has been prioritized. The government’s revenue collection increased by 33 percent till July this year in comparison to last year’s collection.
