SUM tragedy: Hosp owner Manoj Nayak cites ill health in petition, pleads for bail


Bhubaneswar: Manoj Nayak, owner trustee of SUM hospital accused on the tragic fire incident at the hospital has filed a bail plea petition before the Khurda District and Sessions Judge on Sunday.

According to Nayak’s counsel, the court will hear his plea on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Manoj has stated about his health problems and asked the court to see to that. The court has asked the police to get him inspected through a jail doctor.

According to information, the two day remand period of Manoj ended on Sunday while the police are not entertained to take him on further remand as of now. So he has been sent to Jharpara jail where he would be under judicial custody.

It is to be recalled, in a nightmarish incident on Monday as many as 19 people died at Capital Hospital and AMRI Hospital after being charred to severe degrees during a fire mishap in the ICU of the Dialysis ward in the hospital while in the next few days counting till now seven others have also succumbed to injuries.

Following the incident, probe was initiated and as part of action, Manoj Nayak who is the owner trustee of the hospital was arrested after he surrendered before the police.
