SUM Hosp mishap : Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak quits on moral grounds


Bhubaneswar : After pressure from all corners following the horrific SUM Hospital fire mishap incident, Odisha Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak on Friday resigned from his post.

Speaking on the issue, Nayak confirmed he had sent his resignation letter to the Chief Minister Office today evening. I have resigned from my post on moral grounds.

Atanu has been in the line of fire from the last few days ever since the heartrending fire tragedy at SUM hospital and with death of as many as 24 patients so far pressure from all opposition parties, local voluntary organizations, hospital associations have vehemently mounted on him and have been urging his resignation.

Sources said, CM himself has asked him to resign from the post because it was right under moral grounds and the fact that had he not especially following controversial tragedies like Nagada fallout, Japanese Encephalitis issue, Dana Majhi issue the pressure to quit his post was like a ever presence shadow on Nayak.
