SUM fire mishap: Union govt. announces ex-gratia for victims


Bhubaneswar: The Union Government on Wednesday announced financial assistance to kin of the misfortune vexed SUM Hospital tragedy victims offering a bit of consolation.

An official release said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sanctioned about Rs. 2 lakh each to kin of 21 deceased persons who died during the hospital blaze besides also announcing ex-gratia of about Rs. 50,000 to those injured in the accident from the PM National Relief Fund.

Union Health Minister JP Nadda and PNG Minister Dharmendra Pradhan took stock of the situation on Wednesday pointing fingers at lapses in security and safety measures ensured by SUM Hospital authorities and urged state government to take appropriate actions after proper investigations.

Similarly, the State Government had also announced an ex-gratia of about Rs. five lakh to victims of the blaze incident while the SUM authorities have promised that they would provide five lakh compensation to kin of deceased persons and bear all expenses of those who are injured and undergoing treatment.
